The Classics Department offers both a B.A. and an M.A. program in Classics.
Classics Majors can choose among four tracks depending on how intensively they wish
to study the languages. A major in classical civilization focuses primarily
on the culture of Greece and Rome and students may choose from a variety of supporting
courses in other departments to reflect a particular interest or approach.
The classical civilization major also makes an excellent combination with
a concentration on ancient history in the History Dept or a concentration
on ancient art in the Art History Dept or a Folklore concentration in English.
MA programs are offered in Latin and in Latin and Greek. They involve intensive
language-training and also introduction to scholarship and to a wide range
of ancient authors. Students are prepared either for teaching Latin at the
secondary level or for continuing on in a PhD program.
